My happiness at this verdict is tempered somewhat by every commentator’s conviction that Libby will eventually be pardoned by Bush. He will then most likely end up like all those that came before - Haldeman with a vigorous acting and writing career or Oliver North with his own radio and TV shows. The prosecutor declined to pursue the case farther - meaning Cheney goes free. Well - maybe his health will force him to resign. There's not much worse than him out there to take his place.
I'm hoping that the fallout from this will further marginalize the republic party candidates next year. I had hoped for more, all the while feeling that we probably are very lucky that we're getting even this much.
Now I'm left hoping that those who know what could have happened.. (obstruction and conspiracy charges for all of them) .. will make them keep their heads down and will get them booted out next year.
Flimsy hopes, I know. More likely, we'll just have another dictator wanna be come into power just as soon as we get this fiasco cleaned up. If the dems don't put the govt back the way it was before bushco was appointed, we will have this all hovering over our heads like a black cloud until the day that some power monger decides that he wants it all.
We've been buggared for the last six years, and I get the feeling that we may as well get used to it, I don't see the dems reversing course.
