The splintering of the left
Here's an exerpt:
I don't really give a crap what other people believe or don't believe, religious or not, so long as they aren't aggressive jerks about it. When they start being aggressive jerks, then yeah, that I find objectionable and uncomfortable, not to mention harmful. Since I'm not out to convert anybody, I don't see why I should put up with other people trying to aggressively convert me -- to anything. But as far as what other people choose to believe or not, well, whatever.
Exactly! and if everyone would live and let live, and give each other the respect we deserve; the whole world would work a lot smoother, and more prosperously.
I still don't understand why some people can think they could game the system by being greedy - of money, of power. You don't have to have alot of either to abuse others with less, and there are burgeoning instances of those with petty powers that are abusing both the public trust, and the people around them.
This corruption has become endemic in our govt, our companies, our society. You read about scandal after scandal, and you become so frustrated that we have sacrificed excellence on an alter to the penny pinchers, and instead of replicating our prosperity around the world, we have allowed our prosperity to be exported and diluted.
Each outrage is replaced by another so quickly that we have no time to defend our way of life as it slips through our fingers. You get so used to slashing the opponent's arguments to ribbons that you begin to become hyper-reactive to any slightest deviation from what you in your gut know is true and right.
That is when you know that you have become them.
Solidarity is our only raft on the sea of life.

'The Apprentice' is one of the most popular shows on TV. It features one of the greediest motherfuckers on record. The term 'situational ethics' was coined just for him. Ever asked yourself why? Why on earth would people want to watch a bunch of conniving, backstabbing narcissists vie for a chance to get rich by swindling the public like Trump always has? All that show does is enforce the bromide that there is no honest and ethical way to make money doing business. I think people watch it to give themselves an excuse for bad behavior. Bush does that – though he doesn’t seem to need an excuse. He decides which laws to impose and which to disregard while nattering on about WWIII.
Can I tell you something kinda scary? My husband used to have a friend who was very into future predictions – Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce, The Bible. He kept saying that WWIII was going to start within the first 10 years of the new millennium, and that it would feature the Middle East. Of course – he also said the progenitor of this war would wear a blue turban; but with Bush harping on this WWIII talk – I gotta wonder. Do you think he hides his turban under the bed?
Hey FLS, Blue turban . . . Doesn't that new president of Iran wear a dark blue turban?? Did you see the TV show a while back, about Nostradamus? They showed this actor in shiny, fitted persian style clothing, with a shiny blue turban (why does hollywood always have to make things plastic and shiny?). Real Middle Easterners wear COTTON - it's way too hot for anything else (except silk) there.
Anyhoo - reading Nostradamus as well as No-Eyes, and I'm starting to stock a survival bin, with dried beans and rice, dried onions and other spices - you get the idea, along with a handful of space blankets, and camping supplies.
Welcome, Glenda! I've seen you on Morning Martini, hope you come back often!
