Open Letter to Mr LIEberman

Good Morning, Mr Lieberman,

Soon you will be senator no longer. I'm here to tell you that I did not appreciate your vote on the Alito nomination.{Lieberman voted for cloture, with the Republicans AGAIN} Because you have no spine, and refuse to stand up for progressive values, I will do everything that I can to defeat you in the next election. That means voting for anyone who opposes you including a republican, if I have to. I visited the website of your opposition in the primary, and pledged my campaign contribution, as soon as your vote was recorded.

Oh yeah, I am a lifelong member of the Democratic party, and I have never once voted for a republican. I'd rather have an honest to goodness republican in office, if it means that you are gone. It will force the Democratic party to run someone else next time.

NO THANKS, to you!

Hi SB,

I'm with you on that. This guy has been Republican right along. I think he is senile! I don't see how any woman can ever vote for him.

I saw him on Jon Stewart this week, whining and crying about not getting any papers from the WH. He should have been thundering, but no, he was almost peeing his pants. I think he should go to Israel, and join the army, if he wants so bad to protect that country. At least he wouldn't be spending our treasury in order to do it.

I'm with you, kiddo. This whole Alito thing has really soured me on the Democratic Party as it is now. Though Alito has already upset his Republican handlers. In opposition to Roberts, Thomas and Scalia (the other Catholic Justices) Alito, (also Catholic), voted to suspend the death penalty in a case looking at whether the death penalty is constitutional. This will allow the case to be argued in front of the entire court – something that had been blocked up until this point.

Now - opposing the death penalty is something the current Pope believes in also. Alito is a very strict Catholic - those other Justices are Republican Catholics - against everything and for nothing. I think the President got more than he bargained for. He thought he was getting someone with his limited view of Christianity. Instead he got someone who will follow the teaching of the Catholic church - bad for women and reproductive rights (the current Pope has banned ALL methods of birth control - 'natural' or artificial), but good for some other (limited) human rights issues.

This decision tells me Alito will follow whoever’s Pope, rather than President. I think Bush is likely to be really pissed off about this – and Alito will find himself heavily lobbied by the other conservative members of the court. I don’t expect him to cave. He is died-in-the-wool Catholic. That means he believes the Pope speaks in Christ’s voice whenever he opens his mouth. As for the others? All one has to do is look at their personal lives to know that Scalia or Thomas may pay lip service to their religion – but they don’t walk the walk. Roberts too – he’s more evangelical than Catholic – and that means ‘an eye for an eye’.

Expect to hear some anti-Catholic rumblings from the Pat Robertson brigade. Catholics were always on the hate list for those John Birch types – you’ll see; it will be again.

Catholic may not be as bad as Bushco wanted, but I think it will be sufficient to their purpose: overturning RoeVWade. If his views create a crack in their wall - good, but not good enough for us. Oh Well.
