The waterfall helps to aerate the water, while the water hyacinth's roots spread in a mat below them to soak up the fish's "by-products". In the fall, the hyacinth is thrown in the garden to fertilize it, and the pond gets a little more salt, to foster the slime that the goldfish excrete to keep their scaly skin healthy.Posted by Picasa

I was so missing it the first winter, after we closed it down, that the next year we made one inside too..
